Changes made to the course & team placings

With the recent weather providing competitors with a taste of what the Snowy Mountains are like in winter, there have had to be some changes made to the course from Mid Camp to the Finish Line. At the 6pm brief this evening, Race Director Craig Bycroft commented on the unseasonable snow having some significant implications on the second half of the course.

Competitors were informed that Leg 10, a trek from Kiandra taking in Tantangara Mountain through to Providence will be cut, instead extending their 35km MTB to the start of the final paddle. This paddle is still scheduled to be completed as per the original course layout, but may be altered if the wind picks up in the morning.

From there, competitors have a final MTB 65km which while being quite snowy, should still be safe to complete and a 22km trek over Mount Kosciuszko to the finishers' couches.

There is complicated and detailed system currently being put into place to adjust the leader board to reflect accurate split times between teams, crediting and allocating time elapsed at Mid Camp over the past 36 hours, plus adjustments depending on which part of the course teams were at when being sent/moved to Mid Camp. At the restart the splits for the lead teams were:

Team 2 Blackheart.com.au had a lead of approx 10 hours on team 27 Blackheart/Salomon who had a lead of 1 hour on team 24 Tangerine.
