Teams out on 30km trek with Bull of Africa and Tangerine leading the field.

Teams are currently making their way around the first trek leg up on the Buffalo Plateau collecting five check points in any order. The majority of the field headed off in a clockwise direction, collecting checkpoints at the Chalwell Galleries, then onto the Hump, the Reservoir, back to the Chalet and then descending down the escarpment to collect their bikes at CP2.

The Bull of Africa team hit the approximate mid way section first, maintaining a good comfortable pace. Tangerine and the two Salomon Blackheart teams were close behind although taking a slightly different route. 2 of the NZ teams were also up in the top 8.

The rain has come in and competitors are all reaching for their jackets for what looks like a wet first night.

The Bull of Africa were still maintaining a 12 minute lead over Tangerine, both teams are now making their way down the escarpment to their bikes.

Teams are expected to take between 3.5 and hours to complete this leg.

Teams were all in good spirits despite the rain.
