Team Blogs from CP6 (Falls Creek)
Team 27 – Blackheart Salomon
Greetings from falls Creek, the weather has been horrible and very demanding
at times, wen are all criusing along well and looking forward to another
night summit, this time Bogong, and the possiblity of sleep tonight/early
morning. – Andy.
Team 2 – Blackheart.com.au
Cold wet night at Feathertop and across the high plains, but stopped at
the bottom at Blairs Hut for a 90min kip. Kim found Josh a bit of a wet
fish in the spooning dept but Josh was worried Davo would come after him
if he got too close. Rob is still grumpy, but a Wild Bean CARBOSHOT fired
him up a bit through the night. His choice cream for his blistered arse
is now Assoss with the special “numbing” agent. He’s
now looking forward to the 200km ride!
Team 24 – Tangerine
Moseying along OK. Beat a group of schoolkids to Pretty Plain Hut for
lunch. It’s very small, so we didn’t let them in until we
left. Passed Bull of Africa at the top of Falls Creek. It’s been
pissing down all morning. So much for the drought. The rain will hopefully
stop once we get off the mountains.
Team 4 – Bull of Africa
Team doing well , conditions not great , rain , misty , wind all we now
need to get is snow then we shoold have all that Australia can throw at
us . course is beautiful but they have found all the hills they can and
a lot more still to come . spirit amazingly good but still a long way
to go , Donovan is probably bored with us by now but I suppose that is
his problem , need to pull the reigns with him all the time.
Not looking forward to the 210km cycle , not only the distance but the
shit conditions as well.
Team 36 – Nga Rakau
Surviving the rain and cold, it will be hard to leave this nice warm CP!
Not looking forward to another wet night, but sounds like there may be
worse to come with snow in the forecast!! Team going well, just had 2
hot pies each at the supermarket which has perked us up no end
Team 14 – 4TC
We have lost a team member unfortunately. Liam has an acute ITB issue,
causing significant pain and will not allow him to continue. We tried
to rehabilitate with some time spent at Blair’s Hut, it was a real
log cabin. Dave, Danielle and Grant will be unranked.
Team 29 – Mawson
Sooo Much Rain!!!! Team is going well but unsure of going to the top of
Bogong in the middle of the night. Might sleep then tackle it first thing.
Hi Diana, Hi Sonia.
Team 33 – Securify.co.nz
Hi Dave here. I hate them all. Rain, rain, cold, more rain, and on top
of that we had to go up some big hills! And all that on an hour and a
half sleep being snuggled by Colin. A real highlight. Just had hot pies
in Falls Creek. That helped. Love to Jenny, Emma and Michael.xx
Team 18 – Austrelaps 6:15pm
Hi again. Surprise surprise the weather is…. We are still hanging
in there and hope to get the paddle in tomorrow lunch!
Team 17 – GuRus
Hi Josh again. Chris sends his love to Armand (sorry for the omission
last blog). Not a bad day for the GuRus, but not great either. Weather
varied from horrible to worse, and cold to freezing. We spent a few hours
stationary today heating up, or eating. We’re moving well, when
we’re moving, and everyone is feeling okay. Tonight is a big one
– 47km hike at 1700m most of the time, and very exposed. It’ll
be cold. It’s a race though – we need to be at the kayaks
by just after midday to meet the cutoff. Whilst this should not be an
issue, anything can happen. Look like only about 1/3 of the field will
be able to race this leg – the rest of he field victims of the conditions
and likely to be shortcoursed. The day after tomorrow is when the real
race begins – 210km MTB!
Team 19 Outdoor Australia
Hi all. The race is on to make the make the first (white water) kayak
leg by Friday lunch. We are all doing well, but it hasn’t been easy
going – harsh weather and lots of ups and downs and ups and downs,
etc. Still have not slept during the race – tonight will be our
first – hopefully in a warm alpine hut. Best moment of the day was
stopping in at a hut for a late lunch and finding that there was still
a fire alight from the previous occupants. Toughest moment of the day
was freezing on the top of Fethertop, after 12km of uninteruppted uphill
on foot. Hope you are all well.
Team 22 – More Training Required
Very very cold down here. Finally saw some of the scenery when the cloud
lifted this afternoon and the Victorian High Country really is spectacular
and lived up to expectations. Currently at Falls Creek and going to find
the pub for a hot meal – that will cheer us up! Mike Paige –
thanks for the hammer gel, you’re a champ
Team 13 – Still Thinking About it - Swire Shipping
To anyone who may have strayed onto this web site by mistake – Good
Morning. Victorians always like to offer hospitality and show off thier
scenery throeing at us their best sleet, 4degrees C and a complete whiteout
for most of the day. Progress in the 3rd Leg has been slow but we will
still be heading for a Friday showdown with the paddle. Have had a quick
kip (our first so far), snuck in a hot meal we will soon be on our way
– they have forecast snow for tomorrow over the mountain we will
be climbing – we want to get up and over before that comes along
Team 10 – Starfactor
Maca wishes the seniors a fine formal. All doing it tough with total soaked
shoes and clothes at times in sleet weather. Digging in for a slog up
Mt Bogone at 0100 hrs- 1900 old meters, with the promise of snow today
exciting us. All still in good spirits with Neil always on the boil after
a feed. Paddle next- at least it will be below snow line.
Team 25 – Muppets
1.40 am just getting ready to leave, got into falls creek around 9.30
ast night, another big day lined up with a climb up Mt Bogonge (1900m)
– forecasting snow BRRRR. Summited Mt Feathersword in big winds
and lots of rain. Everyone in good spirits and apart from the expected
sore feet. Digging in for a long tough week.
Team 8 – Caffienated
Feet hurt, knees hurt, brain hurts, and that’s just half of the
mammoths walk. Looking forward to the other half and then spending some
time on the backside in the boat.
